The throw on this is initially very good but it settles down to a softer layer as the day progresses so someone needs to be pretty close to you in order to smell it. I’m not sure everyone wants to go around smelling like toasty marshmallows and a roaring Winter fire. The sweetness wasn’t as prominent though and on the dry down you could almost catch a woodsy balsam note that reminded me of sitting beside a roaring fireside when suddenly someone opens the door and lets the cold snow-y weather in for a brief moment as they enter the house. On the guy I tested it on it smelled much deeper. I would in fact label it a sophisticated gourmand.
It’s a very difficult fragrance to explain but it has a certain sweetness yet a sultry smokiness. Granted, the two fragrances are NOT dupes but they do have that small creamy yet sweet vanilla marshmallow note combined with a warm, toasty smoky note. I say think of Bath and Body Works Marshmallow Fireside because that’s what it reminds me most of. For me it smells like smoky almost burnt marshmallows. I do get the very warm, rich vanilla accord note that plays a dominate note in the fragrance combined with a very smoky chestnut note. None of that comes through for me in the least. On me I really don’t smell many of the notes it calls claim to like orange flower petals, clove oil, or even balsam and pink pepper. I tried it on myself and I tried it on a guy because I was curious if I was right about it smelling differently on everyone. This is an interesting and complex unisex fragrance that will likely smell differently on everyone due to body chemistry. The labels actually resemble the tags used on the Replica clothing line, they kinda give the bottle an older feel and look.

But never, next week, the temperatures will be dropping and Replica By the Fireplace will be an ideal fragrance that will evoke a warm, toasty night sitting in front of the fireplace with a loved one. Granted, we’re still very much in Winter but the weather is more like Spring in New York. By the Fireplace is a fragrance that’s inspired by a fireplace in midwinter. Replica fragrances are intended to evoke a certain feeling or memory when you smell them. I tend to enjoy sweet gourmand blends but fragrances like By the Fireplace capture my attention as I tend to navigate towards warm unisex style fragrances that make me think of warm hugs from a boy.
